Maria in the news, and Anna & Elizabeth gig

True North Music Holme Valley Review

I had a great phone interview with Olivia at our local newspaper the Holme Valley Review the other week, and was delighted to see a fabulous half page write-up about my music promotion venture (True North Music) in the latest edition. It was great to see a big photo of old time duo Anna & Elizabeth when I opened the paper, and they performed an absolutely magical concert at Hepworth (near Holmfirth) last Saturday, as well as leading a full class in a singing workshop. Hepworth Village Hall is a delightful intimate venue in a small scenic village 5 minutes from the centre of Holmfirth and about 45 minutes north-west of Sheffield. Here’s a little clip of the singing workshop – apologies for the loud singing from me (trying to film and sing the third part at the same time…!).

The village hall also hosts regular monthly folk music concerts by my friends over at Hepworth Live. They’re on their summer break at the moment, but have lots more great concerts coming up from September, so check it out – their new website and 2016/17 programme will be out soon. True North Music also runs the occasional concert there (we hosted a beautiful performance by Rayna Gellert last summer). It was the perfect setting for Anna & Elizabeth’s delightful and magical brand of old time mountain music. So far on this trip, they have wowed audiences at Cambridge Folk Festival and Sidmouth Folk Week among other places, and we were lucky to be able to host them for their only full concert in Yorkshire. They were featured on the BBC Radio Two Folk Show just a couple of days later – you can listen again here
